Egypt is racing toward a cashless future—making payment security not just essential, but imperative. The country has witnessed an explosive surge in digital payments, driven by strategic initiatives from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to promote financial inclusion and modernize the banking ecosystem. By September 2023, Egypt had issued over 62 million e-payment cards, with more than 55% of them under the Meeza national card scheme, according to official data from the CBE. Meanwhile, mobile wallet adoption has soared to over 36 million active accounts, facilitating transactions worth EGP 853 billion, reflecting a growing shift in consumer behaviour.

Further reinforcing this momentum, Statista forecasts that Egypt’s e-commerce market will reach USD 19.6 billion by 2032, while Fintech News Middle East noted a 46% year-on-year rise in non-cash transactions in 2023, surpassing EGP 10 trillion (~USD 323 billion). These figures underscore the urgent need for robust security frameworks, compliance with global standards like PCI DSS v4.0.1, and cross-sector collaboration.
